IV Sedation

Why would I want to be sedated?

If having your teeth cleaned makes your whole body tense up and you would rather endure the agony of a toothache than walk into the dentist office, you may suffer from phobia of going to the dentist. This is not uncommon and much of the population feels this way. Our goal in providing the optimum in patient comfort is often achieved through intravenous or IV sedation.

What is IV sedation?

It is the use of medications to help patients relax during dental procedures. You receive the sedation drugs through a vein so it can take effect more quickly and safely. This allows for the dentist to efficiently adjust the levels of the medication to have an immediate effect on further relaxing or waking up the patient.

Is it safe?

It is very safe. The doctor reviews over your medical history prior to any administration of the sedation drugs to make sure it is safe for you. Your vital signs such as blood pressure and oxygen levels are monitored throughout the procedure and drugs can be quickly administered to reverse the effects of the sedation drugs.
