Tissue Grafting

What is a gum tissue graft?

A gum tissue graft is adding gum tissue to areas in the mouth most notably to cover exposed root surfaces of teeth.

Why do I need a gum graft?

Many people who have recession or exposure of the root surface of a tooth feel sensitivity to cold temperature and are more susceptible to tooth decay. Covering these areas with tissue diminishes sensitivity, makes the teeth look better, and also cover up the root surface which is less resistant to tooth decay.

Where does it come from?

It can come from you by taking a tissue from another area in the mouth or most commonly at our office, a small amount of blood is drawn and mixed in order to provide a piece of tissue to place at the area. This method allows for a lot less sensitivity after the procedure since no tissue is removed from another part of the mouth.
