What are porcelain veneers?
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells of tooth colored ceramic material placed over the front surface of teeth to provide the ultimate in beauty. These are custom designed and used to change the shape, length, width and color of teeth.
What problems can they fix?
They can mask discolored teeth. Discolored teeth can be just darker teeth in general, from prior root canals, or stains from tetracycline or excessive fluoride use during development. They can also help fix chipped/broken teeth, uneven or misaligned teeth, or close gaps between teeth.
Should I whiten my teeth before or after?
Whitening teeth, often desired, would be best before placing a crown or veneer on any teeth. This material will not whiten like normal teeth due to being made of ceramic material. Whitening before allows for you to get the color of veneer or crown to match a shade of tooth that you like and/or help you evaluate if you would like to use the veneers or crowns to cover over additional teeth. Please refer to our popular whitening section to check out the available options.
How do I know if I want a crown or veneer or white filling?
Although we try to make every restoration look as beautiful as possible, the optimum in beauty is normally best achieved with custom made ceramic teeth which would be a veneer or crown. We like to use the distance test. Standing across from someone at a distance of 2-3 feet, the resin (white filling) restoration can look quite nice. Closer than 2-3 feet, although we have obtained very beautiful results with white fillings, custom made ceramic (veneer or crown) would provide the optimum in esthetics. The levels of ceramic can also range from more economical to the best in the business depending on the esthetic desires of the patient. How much do veneers cost?
Veneers can range in price depending on any possible insurance coverage and how many may be needed to accomplish your desires.
